WILDENMANN POTENTIAL MODEL

A dilemma of many personnel decisions is that only teachable competencies such as presentation skills, communication skills or professional competence are used as a basis for decision-making.

If potential is disregarded in personnel selection, there is a risk that candidates will be selected who had better starting chances due to previous experience. This could have a negative impact if the candidates do not have the necessary know-how to take further development steps or develop much more slowly than desired.

Potential assessment is therefore the prognosis of the possible maximum performance and the possible future development.

Four potential factors are decisive for the analysis of potential:

  • Complexity processing

  • Motivation from the unsolved

  • Leadership impulse

  • Learning from experience

We observe the potential of participants in our assessments using, among other things, complex case studies, challenging role plays and strategic questions.

Overview of the potential factors

Complexity processing

Complexity is the function of a number of variables that enter a situation. The higher a person’s complexity processing ability, the higher the number of variables he or she can include, structure, and evaluate. This ability tells how well complex decisions can be managed. The complexity of tasks in companies increases linearly or exponentially with the levels of responsibility.

Motivation from the unsolved

A person with strong motivation from the unsolved carries the impulse to tackle unsolved problems immediately. They look for challenges and draw energy from the unsolved and the new. It is typical for them to always want more and to rarely be satisfied with the status quo.

Leadership impulse

A person with a strong desire to influence others takes the initiative in many social situations and tries to structure them or take the lead. This desire is genetically anchored and cultivated through experience.

Learning from experience

Reflecting on one’s own experiences, learning from them and doing better in the future is a key potential factor. People who have a high level of this factor are always looking for new challenging situations, confronting them and adapting what they have learned. They thus develop new ways of acting and abstract them into universally applicable solution strategies.
